Ode to an Old Country

In the book “Italia O Italia”, photographer Federico Clavarino looks at his country’s seeming immobility, and its inability to move forward from its sumptuous past.

Taken over five years, Federico Clavarino photographs are populated with unspecified spaces, colors and outfits that suggest timelessness. Human beings seem quiet and disconnected, not unlike the statues and monuments, standing against various backgrounds of modern buildings.

Devoid of any text, the book is sequenced as a labyrinth of different towns for the viewer to journey through. In the author’s words’ “These flaws in everyday reality, that appear when time is put on hold by the camera, end up revealing the individuality of a place that looks as if it were waiting for a new start, or rather for a different destiny.’

The book “Italia O Italia” is published by VOID and available at the price of 42 Euro.
