Jeanette Spicer: Unspeakable Bonds

Jeanette Spicer’s book “To the Ends of the Earth” captures the evolving dynamics between a lesbian woman, her girlfriend, and her mother.

Shot over the course of 12 years, the project began by examining the boundaries and interactions between Jeanette Spicer and her mother, but over time, Spicer’s realization of her sexual identity shifted the focus, bringing a new perspective on the relationship with her straight parents.

Through portraits, observation and staged scenes, the artist’s lens challenges stereotypes and the way these relationships are traditionally represented. The mother and partner fuse, the feminine body is seen as sensual but also able to generate life.
