Presented at Kyotographie in April 2023, with the support of agnès b., Dennis Morris’s exhibition “Colored Black” will be on view at the Galerie du jour in Paris during the Parisian Month of Photography. Through the eyes of the photographer, it relates the soul of the Caribbean diaspora in East London in the 1960s and 1970s. It’s an intimate story told by Dennis Morris, himself an immigrant who traveled with his mother from Jamaica to London in the 1960s.
His first photograph, published in the Daily Mirror, was taken at the age of 11. At the age of 17, he had already gained professional recognition for his photos of Bob Marley. His series, exhibited in Paris, pays tribute to his community’s struggle for a better life and its quest for pride.
From November 3, 2023 to January 14, 2024. Opening evening Thursday November 2, 6-9pm, Galerie du jour agnès b.
Place Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paris 13.
