He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not is the fourth solo exhibition by Belgian artist Katrien De Blauwer. After studying fashion, she began collecting, cutting up and recycling images as a means of therapeutic self-examination. Her “notebooks” contain a multitude of sketches, fragments of images and texts, and quotations from books, newspapers and magazines. The visual artist links old and new works to construct nostalgic portraits of the past. Like a photographer, she cuts and reframes these anonymous fragments.
Her world is reminiscent of nouvelle vague cinema, a soft universe where the female protagonists shape the scenario. As in cinema, the “cut” determines what remains visible of a certain scene, the off-screen allowing the viewer to imagine a larger story.
