Peter Turnley, French-American, first arrived in his city of adoption, Paris, in 1975.

Turnley, is renowned for his photographs of the human condition worldwide over the past five decades. His photographs of most every major geo-political story worldwide have been recognized with many awards including the prestigious “Olivier Rebbot Award” for best photo reporting from abroad, and also several awards from the World Press Competition, and many others.

When he first arrived in Paris he worked for a period of time as the assistant to Robert Doisneau. Aside from his photographs worldwide, Turnley is one of the photographers who has most photographed the daily life of Paris of his generation. His photographs represent an expression of his true and profound love for his adopted home and city-a city where he has walked incessantly for now 50 years. It is in Paris where his heart has been moved constantly by so much of what can make life wonderful and magic.

Turnley had published several books expressing his love and insights into the life of Paris, including, “Parisiens, and “French Kiss-A Love Letter to Paris”.

Peter Turnley’s photographs represent in modern times, without doubt, a strong and powerful continuity of the school of humanistic photography offered by so many of his predecessors and friends such as Doisneau, Kertesz, Boubat, Ronis, Weiss and Cartier-Bresson.
