Felipe Romero Beltrán: The Border River
In his book “Bravo”, Colombian photographer Felipe Romero Beltrán captures life along the US-Mexico border, where the Rio Bravo river, used as a demarcation line, silently defines people’s lives.
Felipe Romero Beltrán's stark portraits are as quiet as his still lifes. They present a world where time seems to be suspended, evoking the endurance of migration. Divided into three sections called “Endings”, “Bodies”, and “Breaches”, the sequence shifts from interiors to desolate landscapes, placing characters in moments of uncertainty.
Deep introspection, stillness, and a deliberate use of color and geometry characterize the photographer's personal, authorial perspective on themes like migration and social justice. Together with “El Cruce”, an audiovisual piece enclosed with the publication, the book emphasizes the river's contradictory role as both a life-giving force and a militarized barrier.
The book “Bravo” is published by Loose Joints and available at the price of 56 Euro.
