Living on the Edge
Francesco Anselmi’s book “Borderland”, shot at the height of the Trump era, is a deep dive into the communities living at the frontier between Mexico and the United States.
Between 2017 and 2019, the photographer documented daily life in bigger and smaller cities, going beyond the emergency perspective that the news cycle reserves to this 3,600 kilometers long strip of land.
The highly politicized area is broken down into the weirdness and normalcy of individual lives, churches, beauty pageants and gang activities. The photographer takes into examination border areas as territories of their own, distinct from the countries they’re part of, to form a complex and layered narrative.
The book Borderlands is published by Kehrer and available at the price of 44 Euro.
