New York City Soul

Joseph Michael Lopez’s book “JML NYC 02-23” gathers photographs shot over 20 years of walks in New York City.

The book was inspired by a letter found on the street in Hell’s Kitchen, addressed to a “Dear New Yorker”. Devoid of landmarks and points of reference, the photographs focus on the people who inhabit New York, shifting through the frames following a musical rhythm, reproducing the perpetual motion typical of the city.

According to legendary photographer Larry Fink, “Lopez sees and uses light as a liberator .... to liberate darkness from death, to give light the mystery it commands as a force of nature.. and to illuminate his vast emotive and profound concerns about being alive and about seeing itself. He is one of the best.”

The book “JML NYC 02-23” is published by GOST and available at the price of 45 Euro.
