Unchosen Bond

Photographer Abdulhamid Kircher reconnected with his estranged father at 17. From that moment on, the camera became his way of navigating a deeply troubled relationship. His book, "Rotting from Within", tells this story.

The book unfolds like a stream of consciousness, rushing forward with adrenaline, then pausing in moments of painful reflection. Abdulhamid Kircher, the son of a violent drug dealer, was forced to flee with his mother after his father’s release from prison. As a teenager, he met him again.

Shot between Berlin and Turkey, the photographs became Kircher’s way of processing this complicated reunion, both a tool for understanding and a means of survival. Through this lens, the book explores identity, masculinity, and violence, while capturing the complexities of reconnecting with those closest to us, and the reality that we don’t choose the life we are born into.

The book "Rotting from Within" is published by Loose Joints and available for 55 Euros.
