Ken Light: Tijuana-San Diego

Ken Light’s book “Midnight la Frontera” gathers his photographs shot between 1983 and 1987, chronicling the harrowing border crossings between Mexico and the United States.

The photographer went along with U.S. Border Patrol agents at night, as they looked for migrants crossing the border at night. A strong use of flash uncovers every corner of landscapes where people were trying to hide, their expressions and vulnerability, embodying the of violence those moments.

The book’s text, written by José Ángel Navejas, shares his own experience of crossing the border, being deported, and trying again. “The stretch between Tijuana and San Diego is long. Very long.(...) It is unlikely that anybody who has ever crossed it will easily forget it. Its desert-like landscape is bound to carve itself equally onto body and soul.”

The book “Midnight la Frontera” is published by TBW Books and available at the price of 45$.
