Mark Cohen: Fresh and Strange
Best known for his work in his native Pennsylvania, in his new book “Tall Socks”, photographer Mark Cohen publishes for the first time street photographs taken in New York City in 1973.
At the time, the photographer lived for a month in New York City, to attend a film production workshop at NYU. In his free time, he would walk around with a camera, capturing the rawness of the city, graffiti, innocent moments, and the street’s perpetual flow.

Mark Cohen’s loose visual style derives from his habit of shooting from the hip, instinctively choosing unusual angles, making for a different interaction with the subject and for scenes where “the familiar becomes both fresh and strange”.
