Visions along the Border

The book “I’ll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours” by photographers and long-time partners Carolyn Drake and Andres Gonzalez, traces their steps on the US-Mexico border, focusing on human connection in the context of migration.

Together, they traversed towns and waterways, photographing the same subjects from distinct perspectives. The result is a series of uncanny image pairings that reflect the serendipity of human connection while confronting challenges such as holding complex identities, finding one’s own balance, and relating to one another.

The project also examines their personal family histories of migration, highlighting both intersections and divergences. Rejecting linear narratives, the photographers present a multifaceted view of life at the border.
