Olivo Barbieri: Urban Transformations
Featuring over 130 works, including large-scale triptychs and polyptychs, the exhibition “Olivo Barbieri. Other Spaces” pays tribute to a visionary of architecture photography.
A survey of Olivo Barbieri’s decades-long study of China, the exhibition shows previously unpublished photographs that document the country’s transformation since 1989. The images capture shifts in culture, society, and urban landscapes while examining global themes like identity, sustainability, and technology.

Through long exposures and a bold use of color, Olivo Barbieri captures the luminous haze of modern cities, creating a strong detachment from the realistic experience of walking their streets. His work explores the tension between reality and its representation, driven by a central question: “All my work is an attempt to understand why mankind shaped and built the world this way.”
