A Master Of Style
Atlas Gallery presents the first UK solo show of George Hoyningen-Huene’s work in almost 40 years.
He worked at Vanity Fair and Harper’s Bazar in the 20’s and 30’s, was considered “a master” by Richard Avedon, collaborated with Man Ray and Salvador Dalí, photographed the most revered celebrities in cinema and fashion of his time. Openly gay and a supporter of strong, independent women, George Hoyningen-Huene mixed elements of modernism, neoclassicism and surrealism to create magic around his models’ personalities.

Glances travel fast in Huene’s photographs, and studies of chic beachwear become the set of scenes that display a free, sophisticated and playful sexual tension. The exhibition includes photographs that have never been publicly exhibited and a number of large platinum palladium prints, made under Horst’s instruction.
