Sexy, Bloody, Absurd

In his latest exhibition, Brian Finke flashes on the dark side of American culture.

With his colour, high contrast photography work from the last 20 years, Brian Finke offered a social display of different aspects of life in the United States. He focused on the sport-related group dynamics of teenagehood, the relationship with firearms, the performative and appearance-driven aspects of lives that seem to unfold under a spotlight.

Brian Finke’s scenes expose people’s curves, their groove, twists, transgressions and contradictions. The photographer’s work is documentary in spirit but it doesn’t carry an explicit commentary, leaving it up to the viewer to draw conclusions, and to people to see themselves.

Brian Finke’s exhibition American Pictures is on view at
Kirk Hopper Fine Art
until March 26.
