Far from the Gardens

Sophie Hatier explores the boundary between the concrete and the abstract, photography and painting, using a visual and sensory approach to landscape, portraiture and the living. During Photo Days in Paris, her work is exhibited at We Are_.

Since 2016, Sophie Hatier has been working on a series entitled Far From the Gardens [Loin des jardins]. This exploration in search of wild and powerful nature that resists Humankind has led her to travel in France and abroad. Somewhere between photography and painting, the artist offers a graphic approach to landscapes in France and elsewhere.

Sophie Hatier is the first artist to be invited to take up a residency at the Château Jean Faure, a partner of Photo Days. Accustomed to wide open spaces and sparsely populated regions, this residency on an eighteen-hectare vineyard with a flat topography is a real challenge for the artist. She wandered the grounds at all hours, in all weathers.
