Goats, Grass and Grace

“Såm” residency welcomed this summer the three artists Yana Wernicke, Eleonora Agostini e Carl Ander to work on the rural territory of Lessinia, Italy.

Lessinia is a pre-alpine area between the provinces of Verona, Vicenza and Trento in the North-Eastern region of Veneto. Its economy is mainly focused on livestock farming, dairy production and the extraction and processing of red marble and Lessinia stone. In this context, Såm, a word of Cimbrian origin that means “seed”, became the name of a residency whose goal is to push artists to explore the territory and its traditions.

The three artists selected this year, whose projects were curated by photographer Federico Clavarino, inquired on the tools used by goat farmers and cheese makers, the stories of women working in the area and the mysteries of the natural landscape, in a land still off the beaten path.
