SI Fest 2022, Photography at School

SI Fest returns to Savignano sul Rubicone for its 31st edition, this year under the direction of Magnum photographer Alex Majoli.

With a view to focusing on photography as an educational tool for the young generations, the festival’s organisation this year created a path of exhibitions of the walls of elementary and middle schools in the town of Savignano. Projects by national and international authors like Erik Kessels, Carla Cerati, Gianni Berengo Gardin or Stephen Gill, are divided by school subject: science, maths, history, offering an experiential approach on topics otherwise too abstract to grasp.

Another part of the festival focuses instead on youth and school culture. In this section Kanta Nomura ventures into Japan's oldest university dormitory, Chiara Fossati follows the rave movement of the 1990s-2000s, Thomas Dworzak collects private portraits of Afghan student-warriors and Ivars Gravlejs shows his school photo diary, from 1990spost-communist Latvia.
