Surf Bible

The book “Surfer Magazine 1960-2020” gathers the best covers and interior pages of the legendary magazine throughout its 60 years of history.

Founded by surfer, artist and filmmaker John Severson in 1960, “Surfer” quickly became a point of reference for the sport’s technical aspects and lifestyle. Working with the best professionals in the field, the magazine tracked for over six decades the evolution of surfing in parallel with the development of photography and graphic design.

Surfer and photo editor Grant Ellis recently selected 350 images from different issues to create an anthology that speaks about the sport’s development overtime: “I was always on the hunt for an image that was technically great and that told a story. I also was very aware of the fact that SURFER was a time capsule, and we needed to be conscious of including images that advanced the storyline of the history of the sport.”
