Else Than Visible

In Marie Leroux’s series Awen, druidism looks at nature to connect to the otherworld.

"It is necessary to believe that there is something else than the manifested, the visible", writes French photographer Marie Leroux about her series Awen, focused on druidism and its cults of connection to nature. After working on powerful rituals in different cultures and areas of the world, her interest gets closer to home, Brittany, where the Celtic religion transfigures otherwise familiar landscapes.

“Awen” is a term that indicates the connection with the divine, through natural and animal elements. Druids look at the stars, “like islands in the ocean of the night”, to understand and organize the forces that regulate life on Earth.
