A Mother’s Look
Photographer Talia Chetrit’s book “Joke” is a clever and humorous reflection on the cycle of life.
How do we expect a mother to look, photograph and think like? Arriving at the time in her life when she had a kid, Talia Chetrit reflected on the topics of life, time, sensuality and death mixing archival images from her own past, self-portraits and photographs of people close to her, sometimes complicit, others unwitting.
Her careful study of the power dynamic created by the camera mixes with a desire to play, deconstruct stereotypes, fluidify gender and desecrate pregnancy, celebrating all phases of life.
