Eveningside

This autumn in Paris, American photographer Gregory Crewdson unveils "Eveningside", his latest black-and-white series, produced between 2020 and 2022.

Since 2012, American photographer Gregory Crewdson has been developing a trilogy of black-and-white photographic series. He unveils the final part of this trilogy, "Eveningside", produced between 2020 and 2022 and featuring twenty panoramic photographs of twilight atmospheres. The photographer invents suburban landscapes, freezing the characters in their often mundane daily activities, creating a fascinating and disquieting atmosphere. In this way, the series paints a fantasized portrait of an America between two ages, dark and timeless.

Both political and poetic, his work oscillates between the vulnerability of the human condition and the paradoxes of the American Dream. Bridges, porches, convenience stores or hardware stores, Gregory Crewdson plays with the urban landscape, lending it a strange beauty. A beauty he uses as a "metaphor for the unbearable limits of our hyperconnected, digital, blinkered world".
