When The Street Gets Physical
Eamonn Doyle’s Dublin streets scenes in ON & ONE, around the corner from his doorstep.
There’s a fierceness to Eamonn Doyle’s street characters. Photographed in working-class areas of Dublin, not far from his home, the give off a hardened vibe, whatever their age or gender. Their physicality is three dimensional, the way they walk strong-minded, impossible to stop from the street flow. In his series ON (2015) and ONE (2021), the latter one shot during the Covid-19 pandemic, people blend with light, shade and the urban fabric.

Eamonn Doyle doesn’t seem interested in his characters’ social or psychological context. He rather absorbs their energy, reflected straight and strong in the images. His approach is intuitive and synesthetic, which doesn’t surprise since he spent 20 years working in the music industry, founding DEAF, Dublin’s electronic music festival.
