“I wonder what would Tokyo look like if all traces of human consumption disappeared from the city, when there will be no entrances and no exits, only box-like structures till the eye can see.” In the series Tokyo Nude the Japanese photographer expresses her frustration with the claustrophobic dynamics of the city and her simultaneous fascination with geometries, colors and layers of architecture.
Façades are windowless, streets are empty. No people, lights or signs. Rumi Ando removes from the frame of her images all elements that connect to the flow of life, hinting at relationships among human beings becoming more and more rarefied as we move into the virtual world that we access from our offices and bedrooms.
