A New Collective is Born in New York

The exhibition Parallel Horizons celebrates the formation of the homonymous collective of nine international artists, who brought their experiences and backgrounds to New York City.

How do we search for a home when it is no longer the place we come from? Home and belonging are issues that keep resonating in the artists’ work. Carlos de la Sancha questions his own relationship with the home country, Marco Serventi looks at a community of people living underground in the Australian outback, Mandana Mahdavi works with children whose parents have been imprisoned, and Maria Sarafi reflects on human history.

The body is another cornerstone in the collective’s work. Matilda Hay studies the physical and psychological process of freezing eggs for women who desire having children, Giovanna Giuliano sheds light out our visceral, sensual connection with food, Manuela Lourenço examines the state of anxiety the body is subjected to, Marilia Gurgel focuses on New York’s accessibility for people with disabilities, and Rishika Nath questions the interplay between the tangible and intangible aspects of our being.

The exhibition Parallel Horizons, curated by Cameron Judith Peters, will be on view at Chasham a gallery in New York City until October 4.
