The Poetics of Absence

Photographer Brian Karlsson presents the viewer with a real world, where mysterious forces are at play.

Brian Karlsson’s photographs are shaped by omissions. His frames often feel like something has just happened or is about to happen, sometimes hinting at social interaction without an explicit social commentary. They feel like watching a film on mute. No chance to understand the plot, so you can enjoy the clues.

The dreamlike atmosphere of his vision opens up to infinite scenarios. "I've always found in all forms of art that things that aren't necessarily completely spelled out are the most interesting, the most evocative," says Karlsson. "If you don't give all the information to the viewer, there can be all these different realities."
